A Second Life Through Sorting

At DL Bins, handling waste isn’t just about getting it out of your way – it’s about reducing waste impact and protecting our local environment. Whether you rent one of our bins or bring materials to our drop-off facility, every load is sorted to keep as much material out of the landfill as possible.

Once materials arrive, our team separates them into recycling, reuse, composting, and landfill streams, making sure recoverable materials are given a second life. By sorting:

  • We reduce landfill pressure in our region.
  • We keep materials in circulation through recycling and composting.
  • We help businesses and homeowners manage waste more sustainably.

Keeping Valuable Materials in Use

Here’s a look at some of the common materials we divert from landfill – and where they go instead:

  • Cardboard & Paper – Clean loads are set aside for baling and recycling.
  • Wood Waste – Untreated wood can be repurposed for biomass fuel.
  • Concrete, Asphalt & Brick – These materials are crushed and used as aggregate in road beds and new construction.
  • Metal – Appliances, steel, and other metal scraps are recycled.
  • Yard & Garden Waste – Organic materials go into composting streams through our partners like Fisher Road Recycling.
  • Food Waste – Through our food waste program, scraps are composted and turned into soil amendments.

What Diversion Looks Like

Diversion depends on what’s in the bin, but across mixed residential and contractor loads we typically see:

  • 40–60% diversion on mixed renovation bins
  • 70%+ diversion on clean construction or demolition loads
  • Up to 90% diversion when materials are well-separated (wood, metal, concrete)

To put that in perspective: a 10-yard bin filled with renovation debris can easily keep 1–2 tonnes of material out of the landfill when it’s sorted properly.

Responsible Sorting Made Easy

By combining friendly service with responsible sorting and diversion, we make waste disposal simple for you – and better for our environment. If you’re curious about the materials we accept or how we handle different load types, just ask our team when you book a bin or stop by the drop-off yard!
